Izanami — The Dark Mother

Izanami — The Dark Mother

Izanami: She from Whom All Things Begin

In Japanese mythology, Izanami is one of the primordial deities.
Together with Izanagi, she gives birth to the world, the islands, the elements, and the kami. Creation emerges not from violence, but from shared balance.

Izanami is a mother in the deepest sense of the word.
Everything that exists passes through her.

Yet every act of creation also carries its own ending.

The Descent into Darkness

After giving birth to the fire deity, Izanami is consumed by death. At this moment, her form changes, but her power remains.

Retreating to Yomi, the realm of the dead, Izanami does not become an evil being.
She becomes the guardian of the boundary.

In this vision, death is not a punishment.
It is a necessity.

The Threshold Between Two Worlds

Izanami represents the delicate line between:

  • life and death
  • beginning and end
  • creation and dissolution

It is the threshold no one can avoid, yet everyone must cross.
Her realm is not chaos, but dark equilibrium.

Without endings, no beginning could exist.

The Eternal Cycle

In the legend, Izanagi attempts to bring her back. He fails.
From that moment, the final separation between the world of the living and the world of the dead is established.

But from this separation emerges the rhythm of existence:
life, loss, rebirth.
A cycle that does not break, but continually renews itself.

Izanami does not interrupt the flow.
She makes it possible.

Why “Requiem of the Fallen”?

A requiem is more than a funeral song.
It is remembrance, respect, and acceptance.

Requiem of the Fallen does not celebrate death as an end, but as part of the journey.
It is a tribute to what has been and to what continues to exist through transformation.

Izanami embodies this truth:
the end does not erase. It transforms.

The Meaning Behind the Garment

This garment was created as a symbol of awareness.
To accept the cycle is to recognize the value of every passage, even the darkest ones.

Not everything that falls is lost.
Some things must die to give shape to what comes next.
